Supermarkets Roll Out Hot Cross Buns Just After Christmas Festivities

It’s a sight that often frustrates Australian shoppers, but this year, it’s for a heartwarming cause. Hot cross buns have made their return to supermarket shelves on Boxing Day, just as families are emerging from their Christmas food comas.

At Coles, the buns are being sold for a good reason—20 cents from every six or nine-pack of hot cross buns sold will be donated to Redkite, a charity supporting families facing childhood cancer. Monique Keighery, Redkite’s CEO, highlighted the significant impact of this initiative.

“Coles hot cross buns have become a much-anticipated tradition in December, and the donation per pack is vital in supporting our national family services,” Keighery said. “These donations provide counselling, financial help with daily essentials like groceries and fuel, and guidance for families navigating the challenging journey of childhood cancer.”

These buns are available for $4.50 or two for $7 in a multi-buy deal. Coles is also offering their popular Vegemite and Cheese, and Arnott’s Iced Vovo-inspired hot cross buns at $5.50.

Meanwhile, Woolworths is also stocking its shelves with a variety of hot cross buns, including the fan-favorite Fairy Bread flavor and Cadbury Caramilk Hot Cross Buns. Donald Keith, Woolworths’ Hot Cross Bun Expert, shared that the Fairy Bread buns have been tweaked to perfection, with fluffier dough and added white chocolate chips to enhance the nostalgic flavor.
